Portraits 5. Here is a steam locomotive portrait by an unidentified photographer that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1950. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #337, an H-9S (2-8-0) "Consolidated" built in Juniata as an H-8B during December of 1908, rebuilt as an H-9S in November of 1926, and retired in January of 1950 after 42 years of faithful service. Note that the headling, bell, and main driving rods have been removed in preparation for scrapping. (#12 of 40) (#7,300) |
