Shown here is one of the buildings constituting the Pennsylvania Railroad's South Altoona Shops & Foundry. Everything from car wheels to brass bells to electricity was produced here. In the foreground are the tracks of the Hollidaysburg Branch line. From 1850 until the Horseshoe Curve was completed in 1854, these tracks served as the mainline between Altoona and the PRR's connection with the New Portage Railroad in Duncansville. William E.
